(27.08.2025) #EISBEINgoesglobal It is an honor for us to welcome the Republic of South Africa as the first African partner country for our Eisbeinessen. And we are truly delighted to welcome a delegation from our partners at the South African Association of Ship Operators and Agents (SAASOA) for this occasion, thank you Malte Kersten. Furthermore, for the first time in the 75-year history of the Eisbeinessen, an official Eisbeinessen will be held in the partner country, namely in Durban, at the same time as the dinner in Hamburg. This will be organised by our friends from INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED SHIPBROKERS, SOUTH AFRICA

(August 18th, 2025) We are delighted that our colleagues from the South African Association of Ship Operators and Agents (SAASOA) have accepted the invitation from the Executive Board. This means that South Africa will not only hold the G20 presidency this year, but will also be the partner country of the 75th EISBEINESSEN – the first African country ever to do so. The nomination of South Africa is intended not only to highlight the particularly close relations between German ports and the country, but also to draw attention to the increased importance of African economies in general. (4.12.2017) The Ballast Water Convention is in force as of 8 september 2017 and is applicable to all ships, which are carrying ballastwater. These ship need to have a certificate, an approved management plan and a ballastwater record book on board.

The purpose of the Convention is to prevent the introduction of alien or new species in the aquatic environment. These species are being carried on board of sea-going vessels in the ballastwater and may be harmful to the aquatic environment.
